a beautiful + practical kitchen rug.
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’re probably familiar with the longest kitchen refresh in history. Okay maybe that’s dramatic but it really does feel like it’s taken years to get even this far. When we’re all done with it I’ll put a blog post together with all the details, but this post is really just about one detail in particular.
The RUG!
Peep that beauty hanging out in the middle of the kitchen there? I really wanted to wait until the whole thing was done to put this rug down as a finishing touch, but I couldn’t wait any longer. I was craving the warmth of it to add to the neutral palette of our kitchen and I’m so glad it’s in there now.
Our kitchen layout is basically a squared u-shape with asymmetrical appliance locations, so what I really wanted to do was add a statement piece in the middle that would ground everything. In the past, I’ve had runners in there but the sink and the range don’t meet up in the same line and it always drove me nuts. So instead I just went with a 5x7 that sits in the center of the room. It’s still maybe a bit awkward with the shape but whatever, I’m over it.
If you’re thinking I’m crazy for putting this beautiful rug in the middle of my kitchen, relax. It’s machine washable! With a toddler who spills literally everything and a dog who sheds more hair than I do, I have to be realistic about things.
I purchased the style “Kaden” from Ruggable in color Amber Red and I love it! Machine washable rugs are nothing new but what I love about Ruggable rugs is that they come as a two-part system. So the rug cover (the pretty patterned piece) attaches to the non-slip rug pad as a separate piece. When you want to wash it, you just peel the rug cover off, throw it in the washer & dryer, and then reattach it good as new! This two-part system also allows you to change out styles more frequently because you can buy rug covers separately if you want. So if you want to switch it up, you can keep the same rug pad down and just add a different cover. Brilliant!
Other cool facts about this brand: they are a woman founded company (girl power!), everything is made to order at one of their three US based manufacturing locations, their latex-free rug pads are made of recycled materials and they sponsor responsible reforestation practices to help offset their carbon footprint. Can you tell I’m a big fan? Shop Ruggable rugs here and save 15% on your first order.
Moral of the story, don’t be afraid to put a beautiful rug down where you think you can’t, just get one that you can wash! Durable, machine washable rugs allows us to maintain them longer meaning we need to replace them less often, keeping more items out of our landfills. Cool, right?
A few other brands that also sell machine washable rugs include Revival, Tumble, The Rug Collective, West Elm and Pottery Barn. Happy rug shopping!
