hey, it’s me!

Hello, hi! Welcome! I started this page because after many, many months of soul searching and endless conversations with my husband about “what I wanted to do with my life” (what kind of a question is that, anyways?), I’ve decided to combine two passions into one: interior design + sustainability.

Let’s take it back a notch and start from the beginning. I knew I wanted to become an interior designer since I was a child. Honestly, I would watch Trading Spaces on TLC every day and dreamed about becoming a designer on Extreme Home Makeover. So after high school I headed to college to get my official degree in what I loved most. I studied Interior Architecture at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point (go pointers!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in exactly that. Thankfully, I got a job a month after graduation at a local flooring and tile shop where I gained some lifetime friends and an incredible amount of knowledge for the flooring & tile industry. A couple years after working there, I was offered a job with Kohler Company in their exhibits & displays department as a drafter and eventually worked my way up to Senior Interior Designer of the Branded Spaces team, specializing in trade shows. And that brings us to today! I currently still work at Kohler and the rumors are true: it really is a great company & their toilets are the best.

Okay, so maybe you’re wondering, if I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up when I was a kid and actually grew up to be that, what’s up with this whole not knowing what to do with my life thing? I mean, that’s what I was wondering too. All I knew is, there was something missing and I needed to find it. So I dabbled around in a couple different things. I art directed some photography and video shoots, I designed sets for photography & video, and I took charge of all the graphic design for trade shows. But nothing was tripping my trigger. Then, I took up a side business with Zyia Active and started putting myself out there on social media, trying to sell activewear. Curveball! This was purely a hobby job that had nothing to do with interior design, but it allowed me to do my own thing and essentially create my own creative brand. Ultimately, I decided that selling activewear was not my jam, but what I gained from that experience was an incredible amount of confidence & a peek into running my own business. Shoutout to all the network marketers and social sellers out there, that biz is hard work! It was actually through a network marketing coach that I realized that my niche to give back to this world was combining my passion for trying to save the planet and my experience in interior design.

Let’s talk about the trying to save the planet part. To this day my family will still give me grief for yelling at them for throwing their plastic bottles into the campfire on our many family camping trips as a kid. And yes I still scold people for this. I’ve always been passionate about trying to do my part to help leave this place better than I found it. As I’ve gotten older, and especially since I became a mom, I have really started doing more and more research, educating myself about best practices, and sharing what I could with others (mostly my family and close friends, because they have to listen to me haha). But here I am now to share what I’ve learned and will continue to learn about best practices for living a more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle, and specifically best practices for responsible interior design. Because what we bring into our home does matter. It matters for our own health, for our family’s health, and for our planet’s health. I personally want this beautiful planet to be around for my great-grandchildren to experience. If you’ve read this far, then you hopefully do too. So, I’m here to be the energy I want to attract. Let’s do this!
